Catherine Waln Bachman, formerly of Cedar Rapids died at 1:30 a.m. November 1st, 2024, at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown. Born on December 27, 1923, the daughter of Earl and Ruth Waln. She graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. She married Willis Bachman on February 6, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Cleveland school for eighteen years.
Catherine was a member of the Olivet Presbyterian Church, Cedar Chapter of Eastern Star, White Shrine, Grand Cross of Color in Rainbow, Daughters of the Nile, Auxiliary of El Kahir Shriners, a charter member of the Iowanderers Camping Club, and past First Lady of the Iowa Unit of WBCCI Airstream Club.
Survivors include her two daughters Janice (Arnold) Carter, Coralville, Iowa, Marcia Sutliff, Lone Tree, Colorado – two sons Dennis (Judy) Bachman, Tuscon, Arizona, Doug (Janet) Bachman, St Louis, Missouri – eight grandchildren – Chris Carter, Cathy Reynolds, Greg and Tom Bachman, Beth Benites, Katie Cass, Austin Sutliff and Lauren Semerdjian – eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband Willis Bachman, two brothers Max and Warren Waln, son-in-law Mike Sutliff, and granddaughter Laura Bachman.
A private family memorial service was held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. No flowers please, memorial donations may be given to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
