Lawrence (Larry) Richard Vogl, 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed peacefully into his eternal home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services is assisting the family.

Larry was the son of William and Teresa (Shea) Vogl. He was born in Cedar Rapids on June 14, 1953, and graduated from Regis High School in 1971, and Iowa State University in 1975, with a degree in Applied Art & Advertising Design. On May 19, 1979, he married Vicky Lee Midtgaard at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile, Iowa.

Larry began his career as the Art Director at Mach III Incorporated in Mason City, Iowa, where he met his future wife, Vicky. He and Vicky later moved to Des Moines where Larry worked in advertising at Kagin’s and CMF&Z. Also, while in Des Moines, Larry & Vicky started their family with the birth of their oldest child. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1980, where Larry & Vicky’s family grew to six wonderful children. Larry worked at Pepco Litho and Julin Printing before starting his 30-year career at Cedar Graphics, Inc. in Hiawatha. He retired in June 2023.

Larry was a kind, patient, loving, and proud husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted man of faith and a St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church member. Larry enjoyed serving his community and did so by teaching religious education classes and leading Boy Scout Troops for many years. He loved being a grandpa. Playing with and teaching his 10 grandkids brought him much joy. You could always find him cheering on the sidelines or in the audience of his kids’ and grandkids’ many activities. His support and dedication were unwavering and will be missed by all.

Larry is survived by his wife, Vicky and their six children, Bonnie (Trent) Benesh of Walker, Charlie (Stephanie) Vogl of Marion, Billy (Nichole) Vogl of Cedar Rapids, DeeDee (Jake) Tooley of Chicago, Illinois, Becca (Russell Klein) of Monticello, and Jamie (Dan Silverman) of Charleston, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Levi, Liam & Leo Benesh, Leah Vogl, Bennett & Sienna Vogl, Calla Tooley, Milo Beadle, and baby girl Tooley arriving in December; siblings, Margie (Bob) Pence of Cedar Rapids, Kathy Denniston of Springfield, Missouri, Susie (Nick) Nicholson of Louisville, Kentucky, Judy (Gary) Hutchins of Fort Myers, Florida, Mary (Ron) Hanson of Glenwood, Sally (Scott) Johnsen of Bloomingdale, Illinois, Jim (Kate) Vogl of Plymouth, Minnesota, Annie (Joe) Jeffries of Cedar Rapids, and Lisa (Griff) Griffin of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Cindy Schubert of Britt, and Connie (Mark) Hallam of Mankato, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Arlyn (Lila) Midtgaard of Fertile; aunts, Alice Shea of Cedar Rapids and Mary Ann Steele of Marion; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Teresa Vogl; father and mother-in-law, Arden and Fern Midtgaard; granddaughter, Vivianne Beadle, and brothers-in-law, Mick Denniston and Russell Schubert.
