In Memoriam: Amerigo Carnazzola

Amerigo Carnazzola, 93, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024.

Born on March 26, 1931, in Sondrio, Italy, nestled in the Italian Alps, Amerigo’s life was a journey of discovery and achievement. Educated as a Mechanical Engineer at the University of Milan, he embarked on a new chapter when he arrived in the United States in 1952. He began his career with General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. While in Detroit, he met and married Rose Lucy Bernardara in 1954.

Driven by a dream to live in the West, Amerigo and Rose moved to California. There, Amerigo worked first for the Lawrence Radiation Lab associated with Stanford University and later for Rockwell International in Canoga Park, California, where he dedicated 34 years of his career before retiring in 1985.

Amerigo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose, who passed away in July 2023, concluding a remarkable 69 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Amerigo E, his daughter, Louise M, and his son-in-law Alan J. Gotcher. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Brian, Derick, Lana, and Jenna, and great-grandchildren, MacKinley, Reagan, Kristoffer, and Benjamin.

A man of diverse interests, Amerigo had a passion for gardening, painting, cooking, space science, geography, and American history. His love for the outdoors and summer road trips to National Parks instilled a lasting appreciation for travel in his children, a passion they continue to embrace.
The family will hold a private service to honor Amerigo’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

Amerigo Carnazzola will be remembered for his love of family, and the joy he found in exploring the world. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the passions he inspired.
