Michael Helgens

Monticello

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… It is a period of great sadness. Michael Helgens, age 41, of Monticello, Iowa has been called to join the stars on August 26th, in Dallas, Texas, after a brief illness, he departed this world.

Michael Ray Helgens was born January 24, 1983. His life was filled with adventures worthy of a Jedi. He faced life’s challenges with courage, humor, and a heart full of love. He surrounded himself with the best people and always had room at his table for more. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and bravery, much like the heroes he admired. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, as he now becomes one with the Force.

Michael is survived by his mother Pam Helgens, his sister Shanice Ostwinkle (Brian), his partner through life Bethie, and their loyal companion Piper, his aunts Treva and Cindy, as well as his nieces and nephews: Ryanna, Charly, Alyvia, Isayah, Jase, and Julian. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Garnett, grandfather Robert, and his sister Michaela, who now welcome him into the cosmic embrace of the Force. Though he has left us, his spirit will forever be a guiding light in the galaxy.

Michael graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 2001. He continued his education at Cornell College receiving his Bachelor’s in English with a Minor in Computer Science. He had a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Capella and he was working on his Doctorate in Business at the University of Dubuque. In high school he worked at the Wagon Wheel washing and breaking dishes. The Monticello Chamber approached Michael about playing Santa Claus and he embraced it, bringing his joy to others. He worked for the Jones County Fair for several years. He published 2 books. He also had a business venture with friends (the Brubaker’s), Media Adventure and Dallas Media Productions. Michael has been employed at Toyota Financial Services for 20 years and was currently Supervisor of the Office of the President.

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not.” – Yoda… “The Force will be with you. Always.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi… “No one’s ever really gone.” – Luke Skywalker… “In the end the things we regret most are the chances we never took” – Michael Helgens
