Ronald “Ron” E. Savago, 77, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at home with his family present. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester. Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, 10 a.m. at the funeral home, burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Masonville. A gathering will follow at Backbone State Park Beach Lodge north of Dundee.
Ron was born on December 9, 1946, in Seneca, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Eileen (Buser) Savago. He attended East Buchanan Schools in Winthrop, Iowa, and went onto serve in the Iowa National Guard. Ron married Nancy Shaw on September 14, 1973; four children were born to this union. He worked 34 years for the railroad starting with Illinois Central as a track maintenance worker, followed by Chicago Central Pacific and retiring from Canadian National as a track foreman. After retirement, Ron went on to work for Paul Niemann Construction for 11 years. He was known for his work ethic and was a very hard worker in everything he did. He enjoyed attending the Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, listened to old Rock N Roll and Country Western music, riding his motorcycle around the countryside, and was very handy at carpentry. But most of all Ron loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy Savago of Ryan; children, Bobby (Andi) Savago, of Marion, Larry (Katie) Savago of Dundee, Iowa, Michael Savago (Diane Smith) of Lamont, Iowa, and Lynne Savago-Brustkern (John) of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Cooper, Elizabeth, Chloe and Phoenix; siblings, JoAnn (Jim) Enos of Stockton, Illinois, Janice Rice (Mike Grace) of Elberon, Iowa, and Valda (LaVern) Schaul of Masonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Eileen Savago; brother, Charles Savago: parents-in-law, Oliver and Frances Shaw; and nephew, Jimmy Savago.
