Jeanne was born in Fairfax, IA, and was the daughter of Adam and Edith (Becker) Schulte. Jeanne married the love of her life, Bill Gibney, on June 23, 1953, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage together. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Cedar Rapids and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls. She had a lifelong dream to be a teacher. Jeanne taught primary grades in Keystone, Fairfax, and Cedar Rapids. She later worked as a Vision Screener for Grant Wood AEA, where she retired in 1997.

Jeanne was active as a 4-H member, serving her county and state as vice president. She also was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Her life centered around her faith and her time with her husband, Bill, her sons, and grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them. Jeanne loved Christmas time, watching basketball, playing cards, feeding and watching birds, shopping (especially at Von Maur), traveling, and anything that involved roses. Her Ginger Snap cookies and Angel Food cake were some of her family’s favorites.

Jeanne is survived by her three sons Greg (Joyce) of Lincoln, NE, Bart (Toni) of Coralville and Jeff (Mary) of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren Matt (Michelle) and Chad, Ryan (Colleen) and Lindsey (Garrett) and their mother Cheryl Gibney, Blake and Grant; one great-granddaughter Audra and her sibling arriving soon, her brother-in-law Mike (Ronda) Gibney of Palo and her sister-in-law J’Andrea Gibney of Maynard; and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, sisters Mary Foth, Elaine Oujiri, Bernice Zenisek and one brother, Laurence Schulte.

The unselfish love our mother gave to our family will live on forever in our lives and hearts. Heaven has welcomed a special lady and we are grateful that our parents are together again.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jeanne’s name to support the Fairfax Fire Department. Please send to Fairfax Fire Department, c/o Fairfax State Savings Bank, PO Box 277, Fairfax, IA 52228.
