Adriano Galvez, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on July 12th, 2024. The family will be having a private burial at a later date.

Adriano, son of Adriano and Ernestina Galvez, was born on June 7, 1932, in Quemado, de Guines, Las Villas, Cuba. Adriano grew up on the sugar mills in Cuba where his father worked. After coming to the United States, he lived in Kansas City, MO, Grandview, MO, and Topeka, KS, before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1977.

Adriano was the “pop man” as everyone called him as he worked for several bottling companies throughout his career. The Galvez house was the place to find several flavors of pop and all the kids knew this. He spoke very little English when he came from Cuba, but quickly became the favorite delivery driver in all the stores he delivered pop to. He continued to love working as a “pop man” and advanced to operations and production manager. Adriano retired from Mid Continent Bottlers in 1997. Adriano loved the ocean, baseball, doing anything handy, and working in the yard.

Adriano was first married to Margarita (Lindo) Galvez in 1956, who passed in 1980. He found love again and is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ninon Galvez. He is also survived by his 6 children and their families: Adrian (Beth) Galvez of Phoenix, AZ, and their children Christa (Anton) Vorozhko and their sons Gabriel, John Paul, Michael, and Isaiah; Aaron (Nina) Galvez and their children Vivian and Jonah; Laura Galvez, and Callie Galvez. Ninon (Tim) O’Neil of Marion, IA, and their daughter Andrea (Neal) Hutchinson along with their daughters Ava and Leah. Ana (Todd) Berhenke of Olathe, KS, and their children Sean Berhenke; Megan (Kenneth) Dohrman along with their sons Joshua and Kaleb; and Mason Berhenke. Daniel and Sheryl Galvez of Rockford, IL, and their children Christopher Galvez and daughter Olive; Jonathan Galvez, and Erin Galvez. Cynthia (Adrien) Lewis of Stanley, KS, along with their children Andrew Kelley Jean) Chase and their children Judah and Embree; Adora, Malaki, Jacob, Jalen, and Isaac. Jennifer (Tim) Lambert of Olathe, KS, and their sons Hayden and Parker. He is also survived by 2 sisters Maria Esther Orrett and Lucre Cue.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Margarita Lindo, and sister Mirta Rodriguez. Adriano will be remembered for his joyful laugh, his patience, his ability to build or fix anything, and his love of desserts.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
