Gene Eldon Stoltenberg, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024. Services will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024, 10:30 am at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin one hour prior at 9:30 am.
Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gene was born September 8, 1930, to Henry and Esther Stoltenberg in Klemme, Iowa. He spent his early years on a farm near Hayfield, Iowa. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1948. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He attended Iowa State University from 1955 to 1959 where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts, and started his Master’s Degree in Industrial Education from UNI in Cedar Falls. On March 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Myrna Rae Cooper, daughter of Clarence and Martha Cooper, of Goldfield, Iowa. They were married for 56 years.
Survivors include his sister, Arlene Gilbert, and brother, Marlin Stoltenberg, of Mason City, Iowa; daughter, Terri (David) Dyrland, sons, Mark (Annette) and Brad (Vicki); four grandchildren, Kylie Stoltenberg, of Gilbert, Arizona, Jonathan (Meegan) Dyrland, Daniel (Megan) Dyrland, and Emi (Kenneth) Balk, along with many great-grandchildren.
He started his teaching career at Clear Lake, Waverly Shell Rock, and Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa between 1959 and 1968. Between 1968 and 1978, he served as an assistant director at Kirkwood Community College where he handled their federal and state training grants and development of college training programs. While doing this, he traveled twice to Germany military bases in Kaiserslautern and Baumholder, setting up water and wastewater programs. Between 1978 and 1989, he was employed by the LeFebure Corporation. He developed their training program serving 29 branch offices nationwide with over 450 field service technicians on their full line of equipment as their training manager. He retired after 30 years, and started staining and wood graining metal doors. Gene was an active church member at Radiant Church for over 40 years including serving on the board of deacons, treasurer, landscaping and new building committee.
