Mary Ann Kurovski
Grinnell
Mary Ann Kurovski, beloved sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by her family members, returning the love and care she had generously given to them in her lifetime.
Mary Ann was born on June 24, 1949, in Grinnell, Iowa, the second child of the late Andrew and Lorraine (DeMeulenaere) Kurovski, in a family of 12 children; 6 boys and 6 girls. She was the granddaughter of Emil and Agnes (Michalek) DeMeuIenaere of Victor, Iowa, and John and Anna (Grosko) Kurovski of Ashley, Pennsylvania.
Mary Ann graduated from HLV High School in Victor, Iowa, in 1967, and shortly thereafter, began her career at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, working there for over 40 years and exemplifying a strong work ethic.
Mary Ann was a Christian, placing her faith and trust in Jesus as her Savior. She found wisdom and comfort for daily living in her frequent reading of Bible passages.
Mary Ann was a guiding hand and a positive influence and was like a “second Mom” to her younger siblings during their growing-up years, especially after the early deaths of their parents. Mary Ann was loved very much and we will all miss her and her sound wisdom and advice.
She enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, reading, family genealogy, attending the Iowa State Fair, and going to garage sales and thrifting; on the hunt for treasures which she generously shared with others.
Mary Ann especially enjoyed family gatherings, always bringing games and decks of cards to play. Mary Ann loved seeing all her nieces and nephews and their spouses chatting and visiting with one another. Her love of cooking and baking resulted in providing numerous crockpots of delicious food and desserts to be shared with others during those family get-togethers.
Mary Ann is survived by her siblings: Nancy (Bob) Ceru, Irene (JC) Sauer, Michael (Denise), Kathryn (Steve) Bowers, Anna (Randy) Schwab, Stephen (Jane), Thomas (Debra), James (Carolyn), Daniel (April), David, Christine (Ron) Foster; sister-in-law, Lori; along with 51 nieces and nephews; 47 great-nieces and -nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and -nephews; another addition to the family due in August; along with aunts and an uncle, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; and her niece, Amy Kurovski.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mary Ann’s sister, Irene Sauer, and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 485, Victor, IA 52347 to benefit organizations designated by the family.
