Born on December 9, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Beverly and Richard Beaty, Kathy lived a life filled with love, positivity, and service to her Baha’i community.
On July 15, 1967, Kathy married her soulmate, James Edward Siegling, in their hometown of Cedar Rapids. Their union was blessed with daughters Robin and Angela, and son Byungsuk Kim. Kathy’s devotion to her family was boundless, and she found immense joy and pride in their achievements and happiness.
Kathy’s passion for knowledge and her love for children led her to a fulfilling career as a librarian at the Marion Public Library, where she worked until her retirement in 2008. She touched countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and dedication, inspiring a love of reading and learning in many. Her gentle guidance and kind spirit made the library a welcoming haven for all.
Her journey was marked by profound love and heartbreaking loss. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly and Richard Beaty, her beloved husband, James, her dear sister, Diane Naaktgeboren, and her cherished daughter, Angela. Despite these losses, Kathy’s strength and resilience shone brightly, providing a beacon of hope and love for her surviving children, Robin and Byungsuk Kim, her two grandsons Mathew (Jewelia) Hicks and Parker Hicks, and her great-grandson Alun Hicks.
Kathy will be remembered for her ready smile, her unwavering kindness, and her compassionate heart. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and loved. Her legacy of love, empathy, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathy’s beautiful life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where visitation starts at noon. Interment to follow the service at the Oasis cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made either to the Cedar Rapids Bahá’í Community, or to UnityPoint Hospice in Kathy’s memory. May Kathy’s soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love and memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
