Gwendolyn Deann Cunningham, a resident of Euclid, OH passed away peacefully and gained her angel wings on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the age of 68. She was the youngest of 5 children born on July 29, 1955 in Dayton, OH to Willie James and Carrie Ella Smith.
Gwen was working in the medical library at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH when she met the love of her life, Gerald Cunningham. The two wed in 1978 and raised their family in Euclid, OH.
She is survived by her husband Gerald, children Ada Cruz, Kari Cunningham (Vincent Otieno), and Gerald V. Cunningham, granddaughter Mia Victoria, and brother Alfonso Smith (Gales). Her legacy of love extends to a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and the friends of her children to whom she also served as a mother figure.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents Willie James and Carrie Ella, brothers James Alan and Homer Dan, and her sister Mary Louise.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Garfield Memorial Church United Methodist located at 3650 Lander Road, Pepper Pike, OH 44124. The family will receive guests and continue to honor the love, legacy, and life of Gwen Cunningham from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at Signature Events Venue & Catering located at 1361 E. 260th Street, Euclid, OH 44132.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sickle Cell 101 at www.sc101.org/donate.
