Nicholas S. “Opie” Peterson, age 44, of Cortland, IL passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1979 in DeKalb, IL the son of Stephen and Nancy (O’Brien) Peterson.
Nick loved riding his Harley any chance he got. He had a passion for being outdoors; snowmobiling, dirt biking and 4-wheeling. He was a 20-year member of the Odd Fellows Sycamore Lodge 105, Carpentersville Lodge 492, Charter Member of Legend Lodge 212, Elwood Encampment 173, and Rockford Canton 83 Patriarch Militant. He was also the Past Grand at both the Sycamore 105 and the Legend Lodge 212. “Opie gave himself unconditionally to anyone and everyone without hesitation and enveloped everything Odd Fellows stands for. If there was a need, Nick was the first person to step forward.”-Odd Fellows Sycamore Lodge.
Nick was an Installer and Repairman for 20+ years, for J&D Doors in Big Rock, IL. Nick was a loving son, brother, uncle, and cousin who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Nick is survived by his parents, Steve and Nancy Peterson of Waterman, IL; his siblings, Jeremy (Michelle) Peterson of Utica, IL and Amanda (Mike) Walden of Plainfield, IL; his nieces, Haleigh Peterson and Meranda Abante; also, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, 3 uncles-James O’Brien, Philip Peterson, Stanley Peterson and 2 cousins-Anthony Peterson and Christopher Peterson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 East Garfield Street, Waterman, IL. Interment will follow in the North Clinton Cemetery in Waterman, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with an Odd Fellows Service taking place at 7:30 PM on Monday, January 29, 2024 at the Funeral Home in Waterman, IL.
