Cedar Rapids
Paul Michael Sanderson, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with inurnment to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Paul was born on September 19, 1954, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Daniel Dean and Florence Mae (Johnson) Sanderson. He was a graduate of Estherville High School and Luther College. On April 21, 1995, Paul was united in marriage to Jane McNeely in First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Wilson’s Farmstead for 12 years before working 29 years at the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. Paul was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, he made a hole in one twice, reading Civil War history novels, spending summers at Spirit Lake, his annual fishing trips to Canada, cracking jokes and singing.
Paul loved his family most. He lived for the moments he was with the ones he loved. Paul glowed with pride for any accomplishment made by anyone other than himself. He looked forward every year to getting together with his High School and College buddies. Paul was lucky to have so many long-term relationships and we were all lucky to have him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He never met a stranger and even if he thought he “might” know you, he would stop and say hi. Paul didn’t judge and he accepted everyone for who they were and the path they were on. He was the best of people.
Paul is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years, Jane; children, Courtney (Craig) Walters of Cedar Rapids, Benjamin (Michaela) Sanderson of Solon, Iowa, Kaitlin Sanderson of Cedar Rapids, Georgia (Tim) Paulson of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael (Stephanie) Jameson of Cedar Rapids, and Chad Jameson of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Bill (Nancy) Sanderson and Jack (Donna) Sanderson; 21 grandchildren; uncle, Russell Olson; special cousin, Dave (Nancy) Olson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and former spouse, Mary White.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Bonnie (Sanderson) Albertson.
