Dolores Mae Steege, 92, formerly of Denver, Iowa died December 25, 2023, at the Martin Suites in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Dolores was born April 24, 1931, the daughter of William and Hilda (Platte) Hesse, one of four children on a farm near Denver, Iowa. She married Orville V. Steege on September 7, 1952, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Maxfield, Denver, Iowa. Dolores attended country school Maxfield # 3, Denver High School, and then Gates Waterloo Business College. She worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, until marriage. She then worked beside her husband on the progressive dairy farm they owned near Readlyn, Iowa. They built the first milking parlor system in Iowa in the early 1960’s. In retirement, they enjoyed bowling, gardening, painting ceramics, and travel. She enjoyed playing the organ and card games well into her 90’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Lavern Hesse, and one sister, Lylda Bond.

Dolores is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Mark) Collett of Jesup, Iowa, and Sharon (James) Knudsen of Ames, Iowa; one son Neil (Nancy) Steege of Newhall, Iowa; and one sister, Carol Brandt of Sioux City, Iowa. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jeffery (Ann) Steege, Christopher Collett and Alicia Collett all of Cedar Rapids; Sarah Steege of West Des Moines; Jennifer (Wayne) Hornback of Marion; and Hannah Knudsen of Stewartville, Minnesota; and six great-grandchildren: Peighton and Carter Ritz, Graham and Gwendolyn Steege and DeMarcus and BriElla Collett.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on December 29, 2023, with visitation from 9:00-11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Readlyn, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Readlyn. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Church or Community Lutheran School, Readlyn.
