Marvin E Frerking, 87, of Robins, Iowa, passed away at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will take place on Thursday, Dec. 28, at King of Kings Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with a visitation prior beginning at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will be served at the church for friends and family directly following services. Interment will take place following the luncheon in Monticello, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley; sons David (Laura) of Naperville, Ill., and Michael of Marion; daughter Linda Frerking of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Alex (Bethany), Maaike (Brian), Rachael (Isaiah), Sarah (Austin) and Seth; great-granddaughters Ellie and Avery; and sister Carol Tieman of Richmond, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Laura Frerking, and grandson Lucas.

Marv was born in Concordia, Mo., on March 18, 1936, and was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia, Mo. He graduated from St. Paul’s College High School in Concordia in 1954. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri in 1958, and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1965. He was employed by Collins Radio for 37 years as an engineer and engineering manager. He received 16 patents throughout his career and was also elected to be a Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Marv is the author of technical books: Crystal Oscillator Design and Temperature Compensation, and Digital Signal Processing in Communications Systems. After retiring from Collins, he formed Innovative Technology Products, Inc. and continued working on electronics. He also serves as a volunteer for science projects for elementary students.

Marv was a Church Leader and Bible Class teacher for many years and authored religious books: Bathed in His Love (A Journey of Faith), and Wonderfully Created, (A Christen perspective on Creation). He conducted classes at various churches for adults and children on Christianity vs. Evolution emphasizing that the Bible can be trusted absolutely. He was also an active participant in conducting worship services for Nursing Homes in the community.
