Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Morris, 89, of Tipton, passed away on Dec. 8, 2023, at his home. It was Gerald’s wish to be cremated and have a private family burial in the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.
Jerry was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Iowa City. His parents were Gerald Earl Morris and Ruth (Brainard) Morris. He attended several different schools in Iowa, Illinois and New Mexico. He graduated from the Springdale High School in 1953. In 1952, he moved into the household of Andy and Helen Mather. On Aug. 23, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty E. Meixner. They were married for 70 years and had two children, Barbara and Brenda.
Jerry worked for the Cedar County ASCS office and many factories in Muscatine, Wilton, Davenport, Iowa City, Tipton and Cedar Rapids. On Sept. 3, 1991, he and his wife retired. They toured the country and Alaska in their motor home until 2002 when they purchased a summer home on Woman Lake at the Evergreen Lodge Resort. Upon spending their summers in Minnesota, they started to spend their winters in Mission, Texas, where they also purchased a home. He loved to fish, hunt and play video games, but fishing on Woman Lake in Minnesota best.
In the Spring of 2016, he became sick with COPD and as a result other malaises developed.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Dr. Barbara L Patrick of Iowa City and Brenda J. (Phil) Petersen of Tipton; his sister Leona Edge of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Vedepo of Sigourney, Andrew Patrick of Iowa City, Kathryn Patrick of Iowa City and Zach (Kristina) Petersen of Brier, Wash.; great-grandson, Oliver Petersen, also of Brier, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ruth Morris; sisters, Kathleen Johnson, Gloria Kirby, Doris Druce and Cynthia Morris; brothers-in-law, Rolland Meixner, Homer Johnson, Howard Kirby, Marlin Druce and Bob Edge; sister-in-law, Patricia Meixner, and his in-laws, John and Genevieve Meixner, and son-in-law, Douglas Patrick.
