Nona Marie Ring

Nona Marie Ring

Nona Marie Ring (Knuth), 85,  peacefully passed away November 20th just 3 days short of Thanksgiving and her 86th birthday.  Nona was born in Woodstock, IL, the daughter of Delma and Paul Knuth.  Throughout her life, family, singing, music, outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, whitewater rafting, tennis, NFL football (Go Packers) and traveling adventures were her passion.

Throughout her life she lived in IL, WI, NY, CT and OH.  She grew up in Woodstock IL where she spent summers in Fontana on Lake Geneva.  She then attended Oberlin College in Ohio from 1955-1959 where she traveled throughout the Northeast singing choral music.  After college she became a flight attendant for UAL although that didn’t last too long because she got married and that wasn’t allowed in those days.  She moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1967 and worked for the Foundation for the Junior Blind and met Ed Ring on a ski trip and got married shortly thereafter.  In 1970, Stephen, her only child was born and the family moved to Tarzana, CA where they stayed for 20 years.  While in California she was very active at St. James Presbyterian church and Stephen Ministries along with numerous other volunteer activities.  She moved back to Fontana to be a caregiver for her mom (Delma) for over 15 years.

Nona is survived by her son Stephen (Nikki) Ring of Delafield and her three beloved grandchildren Sydney, Brandon and Connor.  She was preceded in death by her brother Roger Knuth and is survived by three of her four siblings Georgia Wycpalek, Peggy Palmquist and Robert Knuth (Roger Knuth preceded her in death in 2012) and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a special next door neighbor (Scott) who loved to call out throughout the neighborhood NOOOONA.

A special thank you to Peggy and Rob for being around to help her for the last several years and ultimately being full-time caregivers.  Also, Agrace hospice care for their caring support over the last couple of weeks.

The family will have a private celebration of her life and service at Woodstock Memorial Park.
