Terry Michael Shane was born May 17, 1979, in Macomb, Ill., and passed away in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Oct. 24, 2023, at the age of 44. Terry was born to Norma Shane Kentner (stepfather David), Macomb, Ill., and Hugh Shane of South Padre Island, Texas. Terry had three siblings, Timothy Shane (Kori) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and stepsisters, Lisa Kentner of Waterford, Mich., and Lora Kentner Meier (Rick) of Cramerton, N.C. He was the very proud uncle of Elias Vincent Shane (Eli) and Ellorie Kathryn Shane of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Meier and Philip Meier, both students at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi and Rachel Rochford, Georgetown University, Washington DC. Terry additionally had numerous aunts and uncles (a special Uncle John Washburn) and many cousins who will be missing him as well.

Terry graduated from Macomb High School in 1997 and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2001 with a BS in Communications, Radio and Television. After graduation from SIU, he attended the Texas Culinary Institute in Austin, Texas. Terry held several chef positions in Florida and Tennessee, finally landing in Cedar Rapids to be closer to family. His last position was as Executive Chef at Walker Homestead, Iowa City, a farm-to-table event business. Terry’s food was not only a work of art, but delicious as well.

Terry will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. His infectious smile and sense of humor were contagious. Terry was one of those people who made others feel good just by being around him.

A family graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Macomb Park District for a Memorial Bench/plaque at their parks and trails in memory of Terry and Buddy– his much-loved Bernese Mountain dog.
