Lois A. Erickson, 95, formerly of Wadena, Iowa, died Monday morning, Nov. 6, 2023, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Lois had been a resident at Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, since January 2019, with the first 14 months in Marietta’s Place, the memory care unit at Good Neighbor.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, with Rev. John Haugen officiating.

The Mass will be livestreamed at www.vibrantcatholic.com.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, Iowa and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Rosary Service: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Parish Scripture Service: 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wadena, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Marietta’s Place at the Good Neighbor Home or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Lois Ann McTaggart was born on Dec. 17, 1927, minutes behind her twin brother Leon John McTaggart on a farm northwest of Strawberry Point, Iowa, to John (Mac) Everett and Zelda Mary (Scully) McTaggart. She graduated eighth grade from Chase Country School and then from Volga City High School in May 1946. Lois was united in marriage to John Emmet Erickson on Sept. 25, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wadena. John predeceased her on June 18, 1992, after 45 years of marriage.

Lois was an active and proud farm wife. In addition to assisting John when needed, she maintained the home, kept a large garden, and raised enough chickens to fill the freezer every year. Lois was also very skilled with a needle and thread making several heirlooms. She also enjoyed refinishing old furniture. She loved to venture into the woods for morels and looking at all the birds and wildlife. She and John moved into town in 1987. She enjoyed tracing her family roots and had identified several prior generations. She would quickly point out that twins skipping a generation is a myth since she was a twin, she gave birth to twins, had grandsons that are twins, and a set of twins as great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Janet (Vern) Greear, of Palm Harbor, Fla., sons Kenneth (Sharon) Erickson of Dubuque, Thomas (Deborah) Erickson of Winthrop, and James (Kathy) Erickson of Wadena, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Fedeler of Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son John in infancy, two great-grandsons, and siblings Leon (twin brother), Rita Lerch, and Dennis.
