On Jan. 3, 1928, Virginia Page was born to Dr. and Mrs. F.M. Wilson at the hotel her grandfather Page had built, which still stands today. Virginia graduated from Mechanicsville High School and attended Mary Washington College the University of Iowa, studying political science.

In 1948, Virginia eloped with William “Bill” Woods and spent nearly 61 years together. They remained on one of the family’s two Iowa Heritage Farms, where they raised four children: Richard, Karen, Kent and Mary Lea.

Virginia was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mechanicsville, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the local garden club. She was also instrumental in founding the Veteran’s Park and the Mechanicsville History Center.

Virginia was preceded in death by husband Bill, daughter Karen Damron, and sister Barbara Skerry. She is survived by sons Richard (Mechanicsville) and Kent (Somerset, VA), daughter Mary Lea (Atlanta, GA), son-in-law Michael Damron, nine grandchildren, three (almost four) great-grandchildren, a niece and three nephews, including a very special nephew, David Skerry and wife Elizabeth.

The family asks that any memorial funds go to the non-profit Mechanicsville History Center (P.O. Box 399, Mechanicsville, IA 52306) or the First Presbyterian Church of Mechanicsville (P.O. Box 171, Mechanicsville, IA 52306).
