Stephen Howard, 76, of Raymond, Iowa, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Oldorf Hospice House surrounded by family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, 4 to 7 p.m. , at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graveside service, with military rites, will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Janice; a son, Jamie (Angela), of Shellsburg, Iowa, and a stepson, Darren (Sherrie) Blakesley, of Loves Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Danny, Stephanie, Alyssa, Kierra and Mikayla; along with two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Violet; and an older sister, Betsi Danielson, of Ellsworth, Iowa.

Stephen was preceded in death by sons, Scott and Dustin; his parents; and a sister, Mary Carpenter.

Stephen Howard was born on Nov. 7, 1946, in Cedar Rapids to Clair and Carolyn Howard. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1964. Stephen entered the United States Air Force in 1967. After the Air Force, Stephen and father ran Howard Excavation, where his father taught him about operating heavy equipment. On Oct. 19, 1991, he married Janice, the love of his life, in Cedar Rapids. They made their home in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in 2002 from IUOE, Local 234. Leech Lake, Minn., became their home until 2022. His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
