Sharon “Shari” L. Axton, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Shari’s life for her family will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Garden of Memories Cemetery, in Waterloo, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Shari was born on Aug. 4, 1946, in Waterloo, the daughter of Herbert Lincoln and Gladys Mae (Rudolph) Coutts. She was a 1964 graduate of West High School in Waterloo. On Oct. 18, 1969, Shari was united in marriage to Ed Axton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, one daughter, Dawn, was born. Shari and Ed later divorced. She loved life and had a dry, quirky sense of humor (inherited from her father). Second only to her immediate family was her love for all of God’s creatures. Shari enjoyed giving her time as a volunteer to the Humane Society, Meals on Wheels, and St. Luke’s Hospital (where she was employed for 21½ years). She will be remembered as a fun-loving mother, grandmother, and a caring friend. Shari will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shari is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dawn (Todd) Egbert; and precious granddaughters, Kylie and Kacie.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
