Jerry L. Kopf, 67, of Independence, IA died on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, following a farm accident.

Jerry was born on July 18, 1956, in Independence, IA the son of George and Bernice (McLaren) Kopf. He was raised on his family farm in rural Independence and participated in 4-H in his childhood. Jerry graduated from Independence High School in 1975 and went on to attend a Heavy Equipment school in Pennsylvania.

When Jerry returned to Iowa he helped on his family’s farm and started working at the Kent Feed Store in Independence. On February 2, 1985, Jerry married Teresa Wright, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. They made their home in rural Independence.

He went on to work for the Buchanan County Secondary Road Department, Ledford Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA, Indy Crop Care Independence, Iowa, and Ryder Transport in Cedar Falls, IA. He retired from everything but farming, in December of 2022.

Jerry loved everything about farming. He managed his own farm and helped many neighbors from fieldwork to harvest, Jerry was always willing to help. He enjoyed going camping at the Iowa State Fair and going for long motorcycle rides around Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Kopf, Independence, IA, his children; Tasha (James) Kapp, Sibley, IA, Preston (Ry Johnson) Kopf, Reinbeck, IA, and Nathan (Kelsey) Kopf, Prairie Du Sac, WI, four grandchildren, Keaton, Kesleigh, Rayna, and Amelia, a brother, John (JoAnn) Kopf, Center Point, IA, a sister, Joan Wiese, Waterloo, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, George and Bernice Kopf, grandparents, John and Emma McLaren, William and Anna Kopf, his aunts and uncles, John and Arlene McLaren, Edna and Edgar Snyder, Ruth and Harold Arthaud, Agnes and Floyd Klien, Mayme and Ed Cechura, Alice and William Barker, Anna Mae and Junior Binley, Ruth Kopf, Helen and Clarence Binz, Blanche Parvin, Irene and Dale Bahr, Walter and Betty Kopf, Fred and Emma Puegner.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, IA, with Rev. Greg DeBoer Officiating. Inurnment will be held at Wilson Cemetery in Independence, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, October 26th, and Friday, October 27th, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA.
