Alice Cox, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died after a long illness in her home Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Father Aaron Junge. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Angela Cox; honorary sister, Dawn Hammond; nine nieces and nephews; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Cox; parents, Russell and Lucille Alden; siblings, Maxine (Norman) Burns, Norma (Kenneth) Major and Howard Alden; and nephews, Marvin and Mike Edwards and Austin Roth.
Alice Marie Alden was born in Centerville, Iowa. She married Wayne Cox on April 30, 1977. Alice achieved her RN-OCN putting it to work helping oncology patients at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids.
Alice was loved by many and remained close to many friends throughout her life. She enjoyed her Hawkeyes, playing euchre and bowling. Alice was an avid traveler and particularly enjoyed cruises. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 304 for more than 25 years. Alice joined the Oncology Nursing Society and was once awarded the Oncology Nurse of the Year. Alice had a great sense of humor and a huge heart.
