James Francis Milota
James Francis Milota, age 86, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Tuesday, March 9th at his home in Palatine. Jim’s kids believe “Dad” was tired of Mary’s “homemade” Sunset Food lunches and creaming everyone at gin rummy so decided it was time to join his beloved Grace in heaven. Notre Dame #19, a halfback from the Class of ’57 also known as “Red,” is running again without pain.

Jim was the devoted husband of Mary Grace (nee Hunt), loving father of Mary (Martin) Szostak of Northbrook, IL; J.R. (Erin) Milota of Stoughton, WI; Maureen Milota (Mark Thomas) of Chicago, IL; and Madelyn (Michael) McNamara of Arlington Hts., IL; the cherished “Big Papa” to Frances (John) Dekker, Donna Szostak, Peter (Kelly) Szostak; Michael, Patrick, and Grace McNamara; Ellee, Addy, and Hunter Milota, and the beloved “great Papa” to Sylvie Grace Dekker. Jim is proceeded in death by his parents Edwin J. and Mary Zeta (Brennan)Milota, brothers Edward, John (Alice) and Richard (Mary)Milota and survived by his sister Mary Agnes Burnett (nee Milota), brother-in-law Mal Burnett and numerous other relatives and friends.

Dad was equal parts tough guy and teddy bear. Dad was the person you wanted on your side if you had a battle ahead. Dad will be fondly remembered by his many friends and family for the twinkle in his eye, his fierce loyalty to God, Family, Country, and all things Notre Dame but especially for his deep love for our mom Grace. May they be united in heaven and ready the crew there and here for a St. Paddy’s Day celebration like none other.
