Rick Eugene Holmes, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Rick was born Sept. 23, 1958, in Cedar Rapids to Robert Eugene and Joan Marie (Schmidt) Holmes. He was a 1977 graduate of Kennedy High School. He started working immediately after high school and for the last 18 years he has worked at Ingredion. When he wasn’t working, he was riding his Harley with friends and family, working on his race car or watching his beloved Green Bay Packers. Rick, a remarkable man, touched the lives of many as a devoted son, father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. His passing has left a void in our hearts, but his legacy of love and compassion will forever resonate.

Rick was a person with a big heart, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support to those in need. He had a special ability to brighten a room with his warm smile and big hugs which brought comfort and joy to all that knew him. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with his beloved wife, children, and extended family.

As a father, Rick was a guiding light, providing unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement to his children. He enjoyed attending their sporting events where they always knew he was in the stands because of his famous two-finger whistle. He was so proud of his kids and made sure everyone knew it. His dedication and commitment to his family were evident in the countless memories they shared together.

To his wife of 35 years, Corinne, Rick was not only a husband but also a true partner in life. Their bond was built on the foundation of trust, respect, and deep affection. Together, they faced challenges with unwavering strength and celebrated life’s joys side by side.

As a son, Rick held a special place in his heart for his parents, Robert and Joan. He deeply valued their love, wisdom, and support. The bond between Rick and his parents was a testament to the strength of family and the importance of nurturing those relationships.

As a brother and uncle, Rick played a vital role in the lives of his siblings and their children. His infectious laughter and caring nature made him a cherished presence at family gatherings. He was always there with his big energy, listening ear, and a shoulder to lean on.

Among his circle of friends, Rick was known for his kindness, loyalty, and ability to bring people together. His friendship will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rick is survived by his wife Corinne Holmes; children, Colton, Tyler and Jordan Holmes of Cedar Rapids and Brandon (Torri Parsons) Holmes of Naperville, Ill.; mother, Joan Holmes of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Mark Holmes of Brooksville, Fla., Michelle (Todd) Worley, Mike (Michelle) Holmes and Mary (Craig) Chmelicek of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Holmes.

Rest in peace, Rick. You will forever remain in our hearts, and your love will continue to guide us.

For those wanting to attend the memorial service it will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. and the Celebration of Life will continues on from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at The Shores Event Center in Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family’s GoFundMe page or in Rick’s name to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
