Nancy Anne Wood, 53, of North Liberty and formerly of Tipton, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, while under the care of the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Tipton United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Nancy’s memory. Donations will be divided between the “Friends of the Animals Shelter” in Tipton, Iowa, the “Tipton First United Methodist Church,” and the “Nancy Wood Memorial Scholarship,” which will be awarded to a graduating Tipton High School Senior. Nancy was born on Sept. 9, 1969, and was the daughter of Keith and Carolyn Reeve Wood. Nancy was a member of the Tipton High School, Class of 1988. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Creighton University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She received her Juris Doctorate from Creighton University School of Law in 1995, graduating Cum Laude, and was on the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Creighton Law Review. Nancy was a member of the Iowa and Nebraska State Bar Associations. Her highly successful career path took her to many places; Berens and Tate PC; ConAgra Foods, Inc. Spencer Fane Britt & Browne LLP; Bradley and Riley PC, The American Red Cross, Collins Aerospace (formerly Rockwell Collins), and Littler Mendelson PC.
Nancy was a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church. She was married to Greg Royer from 2009 through 2011. She was devoted to her friends and family. We all knew Nancy for her quick wit, huge heart, sharp intelligence, and keen sense of humor. Nancy was an avid fan of Hawkeye football and men’s and women’s basketball. She was an animal lover, having raised several dogs and cats. Nancy loved to cook spicy foods, including her family’s special Kung Pao beans at holidays and chicken enchiladas. More than anything, Nancy was known for her thoughtful generosity and steadfast love for those in her life.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Carolyn Wood of Tipton; her sister, Teresa (Joseph) Horak of Cedar Falls; aunts, Irene Wood of Tipton and Barbara Wood of Atalissa; nieces and nephews, Joshua (Mickie) Evans, Ethan (Stephany) Wood, Elijah (Ana) Evans, Hannah (Corey) Joens, Joseph (Becca Schwebke) Horak and Cassandra (Ryan Reinier) Horak; 11 great-nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Jennifer (John) Miller and Nicole (Christopher) Paul; two step-grandsons, (Lucas and Noah Paul); special friend, Dan Hunt; many friends; and her dog Clover. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Keith Wood, on March 11, 2023; aunts, Beverly Yerington and Linda Boyer; uncles, Jerry Wood and Gary Wood; and cousins, Brett Wood and Tammy Sanders.
