Wilbert Francis Muhs, 81, of Alburnett, Iowa, formerly of Lowden, passed away on June 30, 2023, at Country House Residence. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Alburnett Christian Church followed by a light lunch. The family will greet guests an hour prior to the service at the church. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Wilbert was born on Dec. 17, 1941, in Wheatland, Iowa, the son of Hugo and Lorena (Pauls) Muhs. He grew up on the family farm near Wheatland and was a 1960 graduate of Bennet High School. Wilbert then went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army, completing two tours of duty overseas in Vietnam. On Aug. 14, 1970, Wilbert was united in marriage to Millie Mae Huffman in Lowden, Iowa. He worked as a carpenter at Hunwardsen Construction-Clarence for many years. Wilbert was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden and particularly loved to garden and sing. Wilbert will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wilbert is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Millie of nearly 53 years; three children, Debbie (Dan) McDonald of Tipton, Iowa, Katie (Chad) Soukup of Alburnett, Iowa, and Nathan (Ellisa) Muhs of Osage, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Ace McDonald, Grant and Gavin Soukup, and Haley, Ashley, Olivia and Kason Muhs; five brothers, Marvin Muhs of Lowden, Robert Muhs of Lowden, Bill Muhs of Lowden, Allen (Joan) Muhs of Grand Meadow, Minn., and Jon (Barb) Muhs of Lowden; sister-in-law, Janet Muhs of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald Muhs.
Memorials in Wilbert’s memory may be directed to the family to be distributed at a later date.
