A. Duane Smith
Laguna Woods, Calif.
A. Duane Smith went to his heavenly home on May 3, 2023, after two months of extensive care. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Kurt Smith and Kimberly Feick; grandson, Cody; as well as relatives in the Midwest.
Born on Jan. 20, 1930, to Blanche and Delmar Smith, Duane spent his early life in his hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He would later enlist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and serve four years aboard the USS Kidd in the Pacific. After his service, he returned to his home in Cedar Rapids and earned his degree at the University of Iowa. During his time there, he met and later married his wife, Marilyn before moving to Southern California. He resided there for the rest of his life, finding employment as a federal probation officer and later as a state parole officer. He retired from his position in 1998 at the age of 68.
Duane spent much of his time devoting himself and donating to churches and various charity organizations, including the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Saddleback Church, and the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. To these organizations, he is thankful for the community and fellowship he enjoyed and pleased to be able to work with them during his lifetime.
