Eddie R. Haswell

Eddie R. Haswell, 99, a lifetime resident of Strasburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2022 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.

Born in Strasburg, Eddie was one of sixteen children born to the late Arthur R. and Ethel (Hinig) Haswell and was a graduate of Strasburg High School. Following his graduation, Eddie honorably served with the United States Navy during World War II.

After returning from the service, Eddie began a 30-year career with the Village of Strasburg where he served as the Village Water and Sewer Superintendent and as a former Chief of the Strasburg Fire Department. Eddie was an avid Strasburg Tiger sports fan and a former Little League coach. He was also a former member of the VFW and Dover Moose.

On August 1, 1945, in New York City, he married Mary Ann (Perkopa) Haswell and together the couple shared 73 years of marriage and raised four children before her passing on January 18, 2019.

Eddie is survived by his four children, Vivian Becker and her companion, Danny Judy of Strasburg, Arthur Haswell of Las Vegas, Eddie (Christine) Haswell of Strasburg, and Bart (Melissa) Haswell of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Georgine (Dick) Lutz, Bertie (Ron) Gray and Nick (Glenna) Haswell and a sister-in-law, Alice Haswell.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Eddie was also preceded in death by 12 of his siblings; Beverly, June, Pete, Harriett, Patty, Doris, Nancy, Jerry, John, Tom, Bob and Kathryn and a son-in-law, Bob Becker.

A service celebrating Eddie’s life will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 beginning at 11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Aloysius Cemetery at Strasburg where the New Philadelphia VFW will provide military honors. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 10 to 11 AM.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
