Sam A. Montalbano 93, of Sherman, died at 10 pm, Monday, November 28, 2022 at Villa Healthcare East in Sherman. He was born May 9, 1929 in Springfield, to Leo and Jane Montalbano. He married Carole L. Lawson on August 4, 1956 and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2020.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Hoyt) Hampton of Springfield; two sons, Mark (Donna) Montalbano of Chatham and John (Becky Ward) of Springfield; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Marquerite Culton of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Terry Montalbano; two sisters, Ann Montalbano and Mamie Unser and two brothers, Frank and Tony Montalbano.
Sam was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He was a US army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of Little Flower Men’s Club; Sangamon County Board; Teamsters #916, Boy Scout Troop #202; Breakfast for Friend-in-Deed; VFW 10302 and Sangamon County Inter Veterans Burial Detail.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, December 5, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Little Flower or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
