John Anthony Singer

The family of John Anthony Singer is saddened to announce his passing on November 13, 2022, at the age of 92, devoted husband of Jane Michel with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. He was born in the Bronx, New York on January 26,1930 to the late Anton Singer and Margaret (Forkan) Singer, loving brother of the late Christine Katsch and husband Louis of Whitestone NY. Beloved father of Margaret (Lee) Landan of Iowa City, IA, Kathleen (Paul) LaCerda of Needham, MA, Eileen (Tom) Dvorak of Lake Forest, IL, John (MaryBeth) Singer of Nashville, TN, Maureen (Joseph) Deegan of Austin, TX, Joseph W. Singer (deceased) of Glenview, IL, James (Laurie) Singer of Naples, FL. He was the loving and adoring grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by Jane’s children: Christi, Nancy, Amy and Kevin Michel.
John was a veteran of the U.S Air Force (1949-1952), stationed at O’Hare Field. After being discharged, he entered the Washburne Trade School in Chicago and embarked on a successful career in home construction. In 1957 he founded and ran the highly successful Joy Builders. In partnership with his wife Jane, they later started Cressida Builders until his retirement. He continued to utilize his carpentry skills to benefit the Habitat for Humanity organization. In retirement John loved reading books and hearing about the lives and adventures of his children and grandchildren.
John’s family will celebrate his life in a private funeral mass.
