LaVona Mae Miller, 100, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at Bickford Cottage.
A Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at the Woodward Cemetery in Woodward, Iowa. A Service of Remembrance will be held later this fall at the Woodward Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Woodward Public Library, 118 S. Main St., Woodward, IA 50276.
LaVona was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Valley Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Helen (Jenson) Born. On Feb. 21, 1946, LaVona married Francis Miller in Des Moines. Francis died in 2013.
LaVona and her husband farmed near Granger, Bradgate, and Woodward. She was a member of the Little Sioux Weavers and Spinners Guild. LaVona served several years on the Gilmore City-Bradgate school board and was a member of the Federated Women’s Club at Bradgate. In 2015 LaVona moved to Iowa City to be near her family. Prior to that she lived in Woodward for 20 years, where she was a member of the Woodward Methodist Church.
LaVona is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Miller (Jim Cramer) of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Andrea Cramer (Mike Zielstorf) and Marielle Cramer, both of Iowa City, Bonnie Rankin (Steve) of Lovilia, Shawn Sisler (Scott) of Oskaloosa and Theresa Anderson (Bill) of Albia; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Wilma Miller of Missouri; and numerous extended family.
LaVona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Hal, and six sisters.
