Stephen E. Hickey

Stephen E. Hickey, 60, of Springfield passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home. He was born July 21, 1960 in Jacksonville, IL to Edward and Frances “Tena” (Bumpus) Hickey. In 1989, he married Kathleen McBride in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lindsay Strange of New Berlin; one son, John (Chrissy) Maurer III; six grandchildren, David Otto, Isabella and Jackson Strange, Maddox, Harrison, and Grayson Maurer; three sisters, Sue Stelle, Nancy McMahon, and Jill Dean; one brother Danny Hickey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA, also completing post-graduate studies in finance, legal studies, and economics. For the first half of his career, Steve worked in the fields of engineering and finance. For the last half of his career, Steve provided technical assistance and advice to a group of Administrative Law Judges with the Illinois Commerce Commission until his retirement in 2015.
