Dale S. Drum

Dale S. Drum, age 80, of Palatine passed away on March 12, 2022. He was born in Ottawa, IL on November 7, 1941, to H. Dale and Myrtle Carlson Drum.

Dale obtained his undergraduate degree from Bradley University in Peoria and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Nebraska. After starting on the faculty of Wichita State University, he spent most of his career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in research and compliance.

Dale loved sports. He remained a die-hard Cornhusker fan for life, and he bravely flew the St. Louis Cardinals flag in Cubs territory. He was also active in Palatine youth sports and loved coaching. Dale enjoyed reading, technology, working in the yard, taking walks, and generally being outdoors. One of his greatest pleasures was interacting with people he knew and met, who frequently commented on his wonderful smile.

Dale was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Melinda of 56 years, daughter Laura (Chris) Simpson of Lexington, SC, son Jeffrey (Eugenia) of Chicago, grandchildren Allie and Connor Simpson, and sister-in-law Janice Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother- and sister-in-law Bernard (Judith) Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at The Presbyterian Church of Palatine at a later date in May. More info 847-359-8020 or www.smithcorcoran.com.
