Robert P. “Bob” Corwin, age 88 of Yorkville, IL passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Accent Care Hospice in Naperville, IL. He was born on February 1, 1934 in Rapid City, SD the son of Robert C. and Katherine A. (Plante) Corwin.

Mr. Corwin dedicated his entire life to serving others and his community. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. Bob was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Yorkville, IL where he was a CCD teacher for 27 years. He was the co-owner of the Countryside Center in Yorkville, IL. A leader in his community, it was over 60 years ago that Bob founded the Yorkville Judo Club. Bob also started the first Scuba Diving Club in Aurora, IL. He volunteered at the YMCA, for more than 25 years, teaching life-saving, swimming and diving and also served the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #40 for many years.

Bob also had a love for the outdoors and one of his favorite pastimes included going on vacation with his family and riding the waves on his jet ski. He also found much pride and joy in the home that he designed and built himself, along with the beautiful landscaping that forever sits as the background of many pictures and memories. He had a passion for collecting and displaying Japanese art and drew much inspiration for the architecture of his home from his travels to Japan and his love for Japanese culture.

Whether it was in the dojo, in religious education, or through his involvement in various philanthropic endeavors, those who knew Bob were blessed to also know his mentorship, boundless generosity, and his genuine love for life, his community, and most importantly, God. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, great-uncle and dear companion, who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Bob is survived by his son, Julian Burt Corwin of Mt. Carroll, IL; his sister, Kay Deane of Yorkville, IL; his several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as his longtime companion, Donna Diehl of Yorkville, IL and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Corwin; his brother, David J. Corwin; his sisters, Jean (Lee) Stambro and Mary (James) Pratt; and also his brother-in-law, Roy Deane.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut Street, Yorkville, IL. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Patrick Cemetery, Bristol, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, with a Military Service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in loving memory of Bob may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Yorkville, IL.
