Monica Ann Ryan
- December 24, 2020
Monica Ann Ryan, 60, passed away on December 22nd after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.
Monica was born in 1960 in Halstead, Kansas, but spent her adult life in Chicago, where she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager. Her true passion was animal rescue. Affectionately known as Mama M in the rescue community, Monica fostered over 800 dogs and cats herself and saved countless others by volunteering with various organizations, fundraising and inspiring others to get involved. She had a special place in her heart for her “misfits,” the ones who were abandoned by others – seniors, physically disabled, terrified of human touch, and she shared their stories and helped find them special homes or filled their last days with love.
Monica was predeceased by her father, Gary Nave. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Nave, her three children, Elizabeth, John Joseph and Matthew, her two sisters, Mary Nave-Wurtz and Michelle Caffero, and various other family members, close friends and rescue warriors.
Monica wrote a farewell letter that will be shared on her Facebook page.
At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers or donations, Monica requested that everyone cherish their time with their family and perform little acts of kindness where they can. A celebration of her life will be held when it’s safe to do so.
