The Saint Teresa of Avila Conference, Saint Vincent de Paul Society has purchased over $6000 of new winter coats, gloves, hats and socks for our homeless Neighbors in Need from these local stores — Big 5 Sporting Goods, Burlington, JC Penney and Walmart.
We want to again thank our lead donor, the Southwest Gas Foundation and other major donors — Micheal and Jean B., Corpus Christi Parishioners, Joseph and Crystal E., David and Victoria K., Knights of Columbus Council #4781, McAulay Family Charitable Foundation, Roper Heating and Air Conditioning and the Women’s Society of St. Teresa of Avila Parish.
We just finished delivering $3,800 of new winter clothing to our allies for this winter — Carson City Human Services Department, Carson Tahoe Regional Hospital Emergency Department, Mallory Behavioral Health Center and the Nights Off the Street warming center.
We are at the half-way point of our current fundraising drive that runs from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, and we are asking for $15,000 of monetary donations from Carson City businesses and individuals to purchase new coats, gloves, hats and socks for our adult homeless population living in their vehicles or on our streets.

HUGS for Homeless is a multi-year community effort to prevent and protect our most vulnerable citizens from cold-weather disease and illness and from cases of frost-bite and hypothermia. Our goal with HUGS for Homeless, along with multiple Carson City nonprofits and social service agencies, is ZERO winter deaths among our homeless population due to exposure to extreme winter weather. A single $100 donation will supply one winter coat, two pairs of gloves, two hats and a dozen pairs of socks that will last through the winter season.
The St. Teresa Conference, St. Vincent de Paul Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your donations to the HUGS for Homeless winter clothing drive are 100% tax deductible. Monetary donations made by check can be written out payable to “SVDPS” and then mailed to: Saint Vincent de Paul Society, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV 89706.
Online secure donations to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Carson City can be made to our PAYPAL account via https://www.paypal.com/US/fundraiser/charity/3111692.
Any questions regarding HUGS for Homeless can be addressed by calling 775-882-1968 ext. 119.
