Mrs. Ruth Patrick Pennington, age 89, of West Jefferson, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, at Generations of Ashe, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Ashe County on July 24, 1936, to the late Granville and Juanita Osborne Patrick.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 6:00 PM at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Graybeal and Speaker Dwight Kerr officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00–6:00 PM, two hours prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Pennington retired from Golden Needles in Wilkesboro. She enjoyed sewing, and her favorite pastime was reading her Bible, which she read over 17 times. She also loved walking outside and enjoying God’s nature. For many years, she sang in churches with the Patrick Sisters, sharing her love of music and faith with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smith Pennington, on December 15, 2003; a brother, Herman Patrick; three sisters, Margaret Lyalls, Mary Salona, and Mae Cooper; a great-grandchild, Conley Potter; and two great-great-grandchildren, Liam Earp and Samuel Earp.

She is survived by: two sons, Garvey Pennington (Marsha) of Hopkinsville, KY, and Jerry Pennington of Lenoir; two daughters, Kathy Roten (Ricky) of North Wilkesboro, and Naomi Saunders (Cecil) of Granite Falls; three sisters, Marie Dillard (James) of Creston, Shirley Bledsoe of Creston, and Louise Cox of Creston; nine grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Pennington will be remembered for her deep faith, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She touched the lives of many through her music, her devotion to God, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will be cherished by all who knew her.
