Michael Alan Waller, 73, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 14, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Arizona. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 8, 1952, to Howard and Florence Waller.
At 17, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia where he met Rose Ann, the love of his life. After serving in the Navy for four years, Michael “Mike” worked his way up from a pipe fitter to a mechanical engineer for the Government.
Mike worked for the Government for over 43 years as a contracted civilian engineer. His work would lead him all over the world. He left lasting impressions that remain with those he met and worked with. He is a true legend in his field.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florence Waller, and his wife of 46 years, Rose Ann Waller. He is survived by his oldest daughter, Melissa Hodgson-Waller and her wife Kimberly Hodgson-Waller, son, Christopher Waller, daughter Julia Felts and her husband James Felts. Two brothers, Donald Waller, Jamie Waller, and one sister Valerie Fisher. Four grandsons, Joseph Hurry, Christopher Waller Jr, Hunter Waller, and Seth Felts. Three granddaughters, Abigail Felts, Emily Felts, and Ava Waller. Sister in laws, Mary Hayes, Joan Smith, Brenda Reiter and Ethel Reiter. Brother in laws, Edwin Hayes and Rodney Smith. As well as nieces and nephews, whom he was named the “favorite uncle”.
Michael’s legacy will continue to brighten those he loved and when he is thought of it should bring a smile, as his smile was infectious. He never met a stranger and the home he built with his wife, Rose Ann, had an open door policy. Michael, “Pops”, could fix anything and was always there to offer a helping hand.
His beautiful blue eyes welcomed you in and his heart would comfort those in need. He had a great sense of humor, loved his family, music of all kinds, gardening, sports, crabbing, fishing, and adored animals. He taught us all how to live life to its fullest.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 12:00 in Grace Lutheran Church, 521 Providence Rd. Chesapeake, 23325. Interment will follow the service in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Rd., Chesapeake 23322.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Rd. Chesapeake 23322. Family and friends are invited to share fond memories, condolences and to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com
