Lanny Dean Nichols, born on December 22, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia, was a smart, loving, loyal, and funny soul who touched the lives of those around him. Known for his quick wit and infectious laughter, Lanny was a beacon of light, always illuminating the lives of those he encountered. His love for music was evident in his extensive collection of record albums, as well as his passion for playing the bass and 6-string guitar. Beyond his musical interests, Lanny was also an avid collector of racing and sports memorabilia, and he was a passionate fan of the Sooners.
Lanny found his purpose in his long-standing career in the aircraft industry. His hard work and dedication saw him rise through the ranks, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues, and retired as a planner. Despite his demanding career, Lanny always made time for his family, who were his pride and joy, and his ultimate priority. He lived most of his life in Wellington, Kansas, creating a lifetime of memories and leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Lanny is survived by his daughters, Virginia Nichols and Danielle Stapleton, and her husband, Kenneth Stapleton. He also leaves behind his brother, Mike Nichols, his sister-in-law, Taryn Nichols, and his beloved grandchildren, Alexis Patee, Brooke Patee, Austin Nichols, Kaytlin Pattrick, and Westin Pattrick. His legacy will continue to live on through his six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Imogene Nichols, and his daughter, LaSha Michelle Nichols.
A Celebration of Life for Lanny Nichols will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1031 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas, 67152. This will be a time for family and friends to gather, share stories, and remember the loving, loyal, and funny man that was Lanny.
