Sharon Tanis

Sharon Lee Tanis of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 86.

Sharon was a woman of warmth, energy, and boundless love for her family. She cherished time spent on the lake, boating with her loved ones, and especially enjoyed trips up north—riding through the woods in search of deer, swimming and tubing down the river.

She poured her heart into raising her family and creating a loving home. From serving as a den mother in the Scouts to hauling hockey gear around town so her sons could play, Sharon did it all with dedication and a smile—often while her husband Jack worked long hours.

Together, Sharon and Jack created a lifetime of memories at their beloved cabin in Atlanta, Michigan, nestled in the High Banks. Summers were spent surrounded by nature and family, and winters brought sunshine and friendships in Florida, where they escaped the cold and embraced the warmth of community.

Sharon had a radiant spirit and a zest for life. She taught her family to look for the good in every situation, even when it was difficult to find. She was strong-willed, positive, determined, and proudly carried the “Moore” family stubbornness. A lifelong morning person, Sharon greeted each day—and her sometimes-sleepy loved ones—with cheerful enthusiasm and bright “good mornings.”

She had a passion for fashion, working for a time in the clothing industry, and always took care to look her best. She also loved decorating, putting thought and care into creating inviting spaces in her home and at the cabin.

Sharon was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother of three sons, a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, and a joyful great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband and son.

Sharon is survived by her sons Jeff (Wanda) Tanis and Jerry Tanis; grandchildren Dana (Brian), Ashley, Jack (Megan), Denia, Jenelle, Brittney, and Danielle; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Lyla, Levi, Kenzie, Chloe, James, and Tristen.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Jack Tanis, and her son, Jimmy Tanis.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24 from 12 until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 600 East Main Street, Brighton, Michigan 48116.
