Mary Lou Callahan

Mary Lou Callahan, 88, of Glen Rock passed away on September 3, 2025.

Mary Lou was born on September 23, 1936 to Joseph Gilbert and Agnes (Cahill) Mullen in New York City. She grew up in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Prior to her marriage, she worked for Fawcett Publication in New York and afterwards for Amica Insurance and Hanover Insurance in New Jersey. While she and her late husband raised their family in Glen Rock, Mary Lou was a New Yorker at heart and would return often to visit friends, see a Broadway show or just to enjoy the City. She was a sports enthusiast and a diehard Yankees and Jets fan. Her tv was always tuned in to their games. She also played softball for Doc Fiddlers in Inwood and coached girls softball in Glen Rock.

Mary Lou loved to travel, traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. She visited such distant places as Australia, India, Peru, Singapore and China. She also loved to entertain. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed throwing parties. Many will remember parties that went well in to the late hours. Mary Lou loved spending time with family and friends, laughing, telling corny jokes, playing games, and just enjoying time with those she loved.

Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. Callahan. Devoted mother to Gerri (Mike Ambrosio) of Highland Park, NJ, Patrick (MaryAnn) of Upton MA., Ellen Coyman (Lenny) of River Edge, Donald of Woodland Hills CA., Mark (Robin Bixon) of North Haledon, and Linda Shillington (Dan) of Canberra, Australia.
