Benny Miller

Mr. Benny Wade Miller, age 89, of the Glendale Springs Community in Jefferson, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, August 21, 2025, at his home.

He was born in Ashe County on April 13, 1936, to the late George Thomas and Sallie Cox Miller. He married the love of his life, Shirley Mash Miller, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Woods, Rev. Lynn Stewart, and Rev. Russell Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the George Miller Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Shirley Mash Miller; two daughters, Tamera Stewart and husband, Lynn, of Landrum, SC, and Kammy Bare and husband Michael of Jefferson.

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren:

• Rachel Foister and husband Nick, of Taylors, SC, and their children, Gracelyn, Ellington, and Fletcher;

• Hope James and husband Vander, of Charleston, SC, and their daughter Esther and another baby girl on the way;

• Seth Stewart and wife Nicole, of Greenville, SC, with a baby girl, Margot expected soon;

• Emma Denny and husband David, of East Bend, and their daughter Aleah;

• Micala Rash and husband Tyler, of Warrensville, and their sons, Atticus, Abel, and Adden.

Also surviving is one brother, Billy Ray Miller and wife Betty, of West Jefferson; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his son, James Kerry Miller; six brothers, Claude, John, Paul, Don, Dennis, and Roy Miller; and one sister, Roxie Sheets.

Benny worked several years in carpentry before working many years on road construction jobs around NC. He and his brother Billy then had their own dozer business for several years. But the work he liked best was his “retirement job” of operating Benny’s Choose and Cut Christmas Trees, giving families great memories for nearly 30 years.

Benny enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful and loving husband and father. Most of all he was the “Best Papaw” to his grandchildren and great grands and anyone else that wanted to come sit on the porch and talk with him. He loved the Lord and is now enjoying eternity in heaven.

Flowers will be appreciated.

The family will be gathering at the homeplace, 6892 Hwy 16 South, Jefferson.
