Geneva Bennett

Geneva “Neva” Bennett was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Mary

Rivers Bennett. She was born on July 11, 1953, in Summerton, SC.

She was raised under the auspices of Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church and accepted Christ at an early age. The Clarendon County public school system laid her educational foundation. She was a graduate of the class of 1972.

Geneva was a woman whose love, strength, and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was the definition of hard work and resilience. She worked tirelessly on her father’s farm and at Knight’s Inn until her health failed.

Despite life’s challenges, she remained brave, steadfast, and full of life.

To her family and friends, Geneva was genuine, loving, nurturing, and strong. She had a caring heart, a sassy sense of humor, and a presence that made everyone feel special. Though she never had children of her own, she deeply loved them and showered them with kindness, wisdom, and warmth.

Geneva found solace and joy in the great outdoors, whether tending to her garden, feeling the sun on her face, or simply taking in the beauty of nature. Though worn from years of labor, her hands were gentle in their touch—cultivating both the earth and the hearts of those around her.

Fond and loving memories will be cherished by eight siblings: Louise Hunter of Bloomfield, CT, Shirley Hardy of New York, NY, Alfred (Margie) Bennett of Lugoff, SC, Harold (Berdina) Bennett of Charlotte, NC, Willie Mae Bennett, Irene Wyatt, Onesa Bennett, and Betty Bennett all of Summerton, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will forever bloom in the gardens she nurtured, the laughter she shared, and the love she so freely gave. Though she has left this world, Geneva’s spirit remains with us—rooted deeply in the lives she touched.
