Betty Smothermon

Betty Jane Smothermon, a devoted Christian and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in Phoenix, Arizona, on August 26, 2025. She was 83.

Betty was born November 8, 1941, in Denton, Texas, to Lester Milam and Zelma Webb-Milam. Betty was raised by her grandparents following her mother’s death a few months after Betty’s birth. Betty was a loving granddaughter and was cherished by her siblings, Clyde and Dorothy Webb-Knight.

Betty was a lifelong homemaker, living primarily in Denton, Texas, Frisco, Texas, and Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a gracious hostess who enjoyed entertaining. Her family was always her primary focus as well as her church family.

In her later years, Betty discovered a passion for the game of bridge, earning a reputation as a bit of a card shark. She was known for her loving heart and her wonderful sense of humor. She never held a grudge, and she loved to laugh and make others laugh in return.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, Benny L. Smothermon and her son Bradley M. Smothermon, as well as her siblings Clyde and Dorothy. She is survived by her son, Brian S. Smothermon; her four grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Brenna, and Trent Smothermon; and her dear cousin, Jayne Cofer of Krum, TX.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10am on October 10th at Vista Church, 5230 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, AZ, 85253.
