Andrew Patrick Donovan (Andy). Passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28 at the age of 100. Predeceased by former wife, Mary H. Donovan, survived by wife, Rachel Platt Donovan; daughter, Mary Anne Donovan (Dominic Peroni); grandchildren John Donovan (Christine) , Samantha Fritts; great grandchildren Kinsley and Andrew Donovan; nieces Babby Nuhn and Goodie (Willliam) Jordan.
Andy was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 4, 1924. After serving in the Navy during WWII on the battleship, USS Portland, he put himself through college and law school at St. John’s University. He went on to work in the law firm of Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine, and eventually on to work at Eastman Kodak where he eventually served as the company’s Corporate Secretary and General Counsel. He retired in 1989.
Besides a life and career where he was the epitome of the self-made man, he developed a love affair with tennis, which he spent many years playing with friends and family. And no one dared get in the way of the TV when the New York Yankees were playing. It can be argued that he was one of their most ardent fans! Finally, Martha’s Vineyard was his favorite place of refuge, and of course, there was always the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle.
As Andy was fiercely loyal, giving, loving and would do anything for those he held dearly, his legacy will live on through the countless people he had touched and who felt his love.
Friends may call Friday, 3-5 PM at the funeral chapel where a service will be held immediately at 5 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center, Rochester, NY.
