Jane “Joy” Sommers

Jane “Joy” Sommers, née Jessup, age 64, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020.
Devoted and caring mother to Caroline (Adam) Vallo and loving grandmother to Amelia Alice. Fond sister of Ann, Lawrence and Richard. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Richard “Dick” and Alice Jessup, and sister Susan. Originally from Richmond Indiana, Jane made Chicago her home in 1978. Jane was an avid sailor and an accomplished helmswoman. She sailed Lake Michigan and the Atlantic. Knowing that smooth seas don’t make good sailors, Jane faced adventure and challenges with resolve and good humor in equal measure. Generous of heart and spirit, she was loved by all who knew her. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, there are no funeral services planned at this time. The family requests donations in her name to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. A memorial and celebration of her life to be held in 2021.
