Gary A. Townsend

Gary A. Townsend, 57, of Springfield, formerly of Chicago, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at his home. He was born April 25, 1964, in Chicago, the son of Medus Graydon and Helen Janet (McCarthy) Townsend.

He is survived by his spouse, Tamara Waldrop; one daughter, Nichole (Taylor) Townsend of Springfield; two sons, Alan G. (Jenni) Townsend of Chicago and Robert J. (Cameron) Dorsey of Springfield; six grandchildren, Kenny, Legacy, Leah, Lily, Legynd, and KyLeigh; mother, Helen Janet Townsend of Springfield; two sisters, Carol (Mark) Tikalsky of Mokena and Bonnie (Larry) Doranski of Chicago; one brother, Patrick Deane of Springfield; beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews, and several cousins, in the Chicagoland area.

He is preceded in death by his father, Medus Graydon Townsend; one sister, Lenore Baldwin; and one brother, Guy Townsend.

Gary was a truck driver for over 40 years. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved to watch his Chicago Bears.

Cremation was accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
