David Schmidt

David M. Schmidt, age 90, of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at The Heritage in Appleton.  He was born on September 26, 1934, in Neenah, WI, the son of the late Basil and Hazel (Prindle) Schmidt.

On July 9, 1955,  David married Mercedes Boushley at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. David then served his country in the US Army from 1957 to 1959.

Dave worked for Valmet Paper Manufacturing for 20 years before retiring.  He was a long-standing and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zittau. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, serving on the church council and as an usher, and he looked forward to attending church every week.  Dave and Merc loved being at their home on Lake Poygan, as well as spending time boating and fishing on the lake. Dave enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  Dave was a man of quiet strength, caring for his family and those around him.

David is survived by two daughters, Pam (John) Kelly, Twinsburg, OH and  Amy (Scott) Nelson, Appleton; two sons, Jeffrey (Anne) Schmidt, Chesterfield, MO and John (Colleen) Schmidt, Celebration, FL; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Fiancée Julie) Kelly, Matthew (Maria) Kelly, David (Fiancée’ Joy) Schmidt, Brett Schmidt, Spencer (Fiancée’ Shea) Schmidt, Erik Nelson, and Lauren Nelson; a great-grandson, Makai Kelly;  two brothers, Glenn Schmidt and Rodney Schmidt, a sister, Nancy (Jim) Jansen; three sisters-in-law, Charidy Ann Schmidt, Peggy Schmidt and Marian Boushley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mercedes, two brothers, Duane Schmidt and Carleton Schmidt, six brothers-in-law, Greg, Reuben, Truman, Alfred, and Roger Boushley, and Jarv Mattes; five sisters-in-law, Darlene and Sharon Schmidt, Ramona, Mae, and Patricia Boushley.

We want to thank all the staff at The Heritage and St. Croix Hospice, especially the RNs, CNAs, and RAs who took such good care of our father. We appreciate all you did for him.
